Anadarko continues success in Freestone County, East Texas

Apr 24, 1998 02:00 AM

Anadarko Petroleum Corporation recently announced the results of a successful extension well in Freestone County. The Johnson "A" No. 2 well tested at 7.1 mm cfpd of gas through a 1/2" choke with flowing tubing pressure of 3,400 psi. The well, which extends the southernmost edge of the Dew Field, continues the Company's successful development of the Bossier sand play.
Anadarko has achieved a 100 % success rate in the play and it is now the Company's third largest onshore gas field. Three rigs are currently running as part of a continuing development drilling program in the field.
Anadarko holds more than 16,000 lease acres in the area surrounding the Johnson " A" No. 2 well which includes the Mimms Creek Field adjoining the Dew Field.
The Company has drilled its first horizontal well in the Mimms Creek Field which is currently being completed. The play offers significant potential for the discovery and development of long-life gas reserves in the Bossier sandstone and several other proven productive formations in the East Texas Basin.
Further increases in production will result from increased drilling activity, acquiring 3-D seismic data and optimising current operations.
