Australian E&P company Santos said it had discovered gas at its Casino 1 well off the south eastern state of Victoria. "A confirmed gas column in the order of 47 meters has been indicated by wireline logs," Santos said. "The drilling of an appraisal well is being considered."

The well, which was drilled to a total depth of 2,118 meters, is currently being plugged and abandoned.
Casino 1 is in the Otway basin permit VIC/P44. Santos operates and holds 50 % of the permit, with Strike Oil, a subsidiary of local miner Perilya, holding the remaining 50 %.
