OGDCL discovers new oil and gas reserves in Pakistan
OGDCL, the Oil & Gas Development Company Limited and its partners, Government Holdings (Pvt) Limited (GHPL) and
the Orient Petroleum International Inc (OPII) have now announced the discovery of oil and gas from an exploration
well in Sinjhoro.
The area was located 22.5 km northwest of Sanghar in Sindh. The Baloch-1 well was drilled to a depth of 3,463 meters
and tested by the OGDCL. Based on electric logs and geological and drilling data the production testing was started
on 28th July 2009.
The objective of the test was to evaluate the potential of sand body (massive sands) of Lower Goru formation of
Cretaceous age.
Four zones in Lower Goru (massive sands) were selected for testing. Zone-I (in the interval 3,425-3,409 = 16 M),
Zone-II (in the interval of 3,359-3,351 = 08 M), Zone-III (in the interval of 3,338-3,337 = 01 & 3,335-3,328 = 07
M, Total = 08 M) proved to be water bearing.
Zone-IV, in the following intervals proved productive and produced hydrocarbons:
-- 3,312.0-3305.5 = 06.5 M
-- 3,299.5-3287.5 = 12.0 M
-- 3,277.0-3273.0 = 04.0 M
-- 3,268.5-3265.5 = 03.0 M
-- 3,261.0-3254.0 = 07.0 M
Total = 32.5 M
The well has produced 780 bpd of volatile oil and gas 3.5 mm cfpd of gas on 32/64 inch choke size at wellhead flowing
pressure of 880 psi. The Sinjhoro field is located in the Sanghar District, Sindh Province, and is a joint venture
among OGDCL 76 %, OPI 19 % and GHPL 5 %, with OGDCL serving as the operator. The scope of work for this project
involves the construction of gathering facilities, an amine plant, a trunk line from the Sinjhoro field to the Bobi
plant, a dehydration plant, a LPG plant, and augmentation of certain equipment at the Bobi plant.
The projected additional production at this facility upon completion is 2,940 bpd of oil, 25 mm cfpd of gas and 224
mm tons per day of LPG.
