Pemex announces gas field discovery in Gulf of Mexico
Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) announced the discovery of a natural gas field in the deep waters of Gulf of Mexico with total reserves of approximately 400 bn cf (11.3 bn cm).
The Mexican state-run oil company said the finding was made after tests in the rocks of the Nen 1 exploration. Well, located 113 km northwest off the Mexican coast, 45 km east off the Lakach field, and demonstrates ‘the great potential of the area’.
Pemex estimates a production of 27 mm cf (764,555 cm) of gas per day in the new well.
In total, the oil company identified three sites that together represent a net thickness of about 50 meters of impregnated oil. It is estimated that the preliminarily 3P (proven, probable and possible) reserves has reached 400,000 mm cf of gas, the company said in the statement.
