State-owned oil company Pertamina has announced the discovery of new gas reserves in Jambi during exploration of a deep well in the Batanghari district. "It is estimated the newly-found well can produce 2.68 mm cfpd of gas with a 30 % carbon dioxide content," a spokesman of the company, Ridwan Nyak Baik, said.
The deep well was identified as Sungai Gelam Deep Well (SGD-1), the twin well of SGL-4, and drilled in 1978. The company started to explore SGD-1 on October 17, 2001 and stopped drilling at a depth of 2,754 meters on December 23, 2001. The well was temporarily closed on February 25.

Previously, Pertamina also found a new oil and gas well following explorations of Tunggul Maung well (TMG)-2 in Subang district, West Java. The well in Subang is expected to produce 1,558 bpd of crude oil, 12.23 mm cfpd of gas with a 6-10 % carbon dioxide content, 4.53 mm cfpd of gas with an 80 % carbon dioxide content, and 66.5 bpd of condensate.
Pertamina is projected to turn out 54,676 barrels of crude oil and 816.41 mm cfpd of gas in 2002.
