Major gas field in Joint Development Area

Triton Energy has announced that on test the Bumi-1 well flowed at the highest total gas flow rate of any well drilled to date on Block A-18 in the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Development Area in the Gulf of Thailand. The well, which exhibited 403 feet of net gas pay, found the fourth major natural-gas field on Block A-18 and exhibited some of the best reservoir sands on the block. On test, the well flowed at a combined daily rate of 73 mmcf and 305 b of condensate from selected intervals. The Bumi-1 is located about 14 km (9 miles) east of the Cakerawala Field and adjacent to the Suriya Field. The Bumi-1 was drilled in approximately 184 feet of water to a total depth of 9,279 feet. Block A-18, which covers 293,757 hectares (725,325 acres), is located about 450 km (280 miles) from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and 750 km (465 miles) from Bangkok, Thailand, in the northern Malay Basin.
