German power producers listed
RWE Energie, the energy unit of diversified utility RWE AG, was Germany's largest producer of electric power in 1996,
the German association of electric power stations (VDEW) said.
RWE Energie produced 127 billion kWh of electricity, more than double that of the second-placed group, Preussen
Elektra, which produced 62 billion kWh last year, the VDEW said. In third place was the Berlin group VEAG, which sold
50 billion kWh, while Bayernwerk AG in Munich sold 39.1 billion kWh.
Altogether, the ten largest electricity producers supplied around 40 % of the usable total electricity output in
Germany.
