Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller and UK's energy minister Malcolm Wicks have held a working meeting in Moscow to discuss prospects of cooperation between Russia and the UK in the gas sphere, Gazprom has said.
The parties considered the possibility of boosting Russia's gas supplies to the UK and the participation of British-based companies in Gazprom's Russian projects. The two parties addressed the issue of constructing the North European Gas Pipeline.

Western experts say that by 2010 the UK will be a large net importer of natural gas assessing its demand in gas imports at 40 bn cm. The pipeline should become the main supply channel with its first stage scheduled to become operational in 2010.
German-based BASF and E.ON will partner Gazprom within the framework of this project and are to get 24.5 % of shares in a joint venture with Gazprom, North European Gas Pipeline Company.
