Norway to become leading natural gas producer

Mar 11, 2003 01:00 AM

Norway will soon be moving from being a leading oil exporting nation to becoming a leading producer of natural gas. In a little more than 10 years, the income from the sale of gas will become greater than the income from oil production.
This report is part of the long-range forecast from the Norwegian Oil Directorate and the investments made by the oil companies.

The production of gas is today 25 % of Statoil's total production on the Norwegian Shelf. In 10 years, the production of natural gas will be greater than that of crude oil, by what was once named The Norwegian State Oil Company.
For the Norwegian Shelf as a whole, the volume of the gas production will probably be greater than that of crude oil by 2012, but the income of gas will not surpass that of oil before 2015.
