EnBW urges customers to go easy on energy use

German supplier Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg (EnBW) has asked consumers again to use power sparingly, the company said. It said that the risk of blackouts remained while power use remained high. The company said the European heat wave was affecting power production and so demand should be cut.
"The peak demand in Germany is way above where it normally is at this time of year," said the company. "Additionally, lower river water levels as well as high river temperatures are leading to production cuts and it is not possible to buy power on the exchange since there is no power left to buy."

However, EnBW said power supply was secure at the moment. It asked consumers to keep power consumption to the mornings and the evenings instead of peak times (11.00-15.00 local time).
EnBW said it would advise the population of any changes in the situation.
