Norway needs power link to Europe to avoid shortages

Norway needs to build new power transmission capacity into Europe in order to avoid a similar situation to the one experienced this winter, Tor Inge Akselsen, Statnett's information director told.
"The problem is long term because the reservoirs will also be very dry next winter as they start from such dry levels this spring," he said.

“To prevent a similar situation Norway must focus on making power use flexible both for private households and industries," he said. "We must also increase domestic power production and build new transmission capacity to Europe," Akselsen said.
"It looks like restricted power use can be avoided this time since imports have risen and individual power producers have taken the initiative to decrease production."
