Ireland's greenhouse gas emissions are still the highest per capita in the EU, despite a reduction in recent years, according to a report published by the Environmental Protection Agency.
The report said pollution from traffic was a primary cause of air quality deterioration.

It also said 44 Irish lakes and 3,800 km of river were affected by pollution, while increasing waste generation continued to cause major problems.
However, the plastic bag levy was mentioned as a positive development that should remove 1 bn bags from circulation every year.
