Shell about to complete Sorush and Noruz project
With Sorush and Noruz oilfields becoming operational, 200,000 barrels of heavy crude will be added to the current oil
output of the country, noted director of the oilfields' development plan Mehdi Atrianfar.
"After a year delay, official production from Sorush and Noruz oilfields will start next week, and the oilfields will
yield 200,000 barrels of heavy crude per day," he said, adding that the contractor company, Shell, is fully ready to
complete the project by July 26.
The contract for development of Sorush and Noruz oilfields was awarded to Shell Development Iran in November 1999.
Over 1.4 bn $ has been invested in the buyback contract.
National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) puts the oil reserves in Sorush and Noruz oilfields at over 8 bn barrels and 2 bn
barrels of heavy crude respectively. The company, however, is planning to produce a total of one bn barrels from both
fields combined.
Sorush and Noruz oilfields located near the largest oil export terminals situated in Kharg Island.
