Qatar's natural gas liquids plant to double country’s gas production
The opening of Qatar Petroleum's fourth natural gas liquids plant will double the country's production of natural
gas-related products, Qatari Oil Minister Abdullah Al-Attiyah said at the plant's inauguration.
Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani inaugurated the 2 bn Qatari riyal ($ 1 = QAR 3.64) plant in the
Mesaieed Industrial City.
The plant has a capacity of 3,200 tpd of ethane, 3,000 tpd of propane, 2,100 tpd of butane and 780 tpd of natural gas
liquid condensates.
Qatar estimates that revenues from its massive gas industry will overtake oil and oil products-related revenues by
2007, Attiyah said.
The plant's construction was carried out by a joint venture between Snamprogetti, the international construction unit
of ENI, and Hyundai Engineering and Construction, a unit of Hyundai. Phillips Petroleum, now part of ConocoPhillips,
managed the project with QP.
Qatar has the world's third largest reserves of natural gas, with proven reserves of 509 tcf.
