Bahrain interested in expanding economic cooperation with Thailand

Bahrain is interested in expanding cooperation with Thailand in oil, natural gas, petroleum and financial service sectors. Somphong Wanapha, secretary-general of the Thai Board of Investment, revealed that Bahraini businessmen had expressed interest in building on their country's rich energy resources and leading role in the financial and banking sectors in the Persian Gulf region.
He made the remarks after meeting with a Bahraini delegation led by Salman bin Khalifa Al-khalifa, vice-chairman of Bahrain Petroleum.

He also said that Bahrain was developing its local automobile industry and wanted Thai investors to support the auto-parts industry to meet rising demand from major carmakers such as BMW, Opel, Volkswagen and Volvo.
Food producers also have opportunities to do business in Bahrain where Thai dishes are popular, Somphong said, adding that the sheikhdom's food processing and fashion industries also have good prospects.
