Syria and Iran sign power plant deal
Syria and Iran have signed an agreement for expanding a power station in Syria at a cost of EUR 240 mm.
The Syrian Ministry of Electricity signed an agreement with Iranian Mabna Company on expanding Jender Power Station
near Homs in central Syria, by establishing a new 450-MW electric circuit that would start to operate by mid-2011,
the ministry said.
The agreement would further enhance Syrian-Iranian good relations, Syrian Minster of Electricity Ahmad Qusai Kayali
said following the signing ceremony. He hailed the deal as an additional step towards a further promotion and
reinforcement of distinguished relations between Syria and Iran.
He pointed out that the project cost is about EUR 240 mm to be secured by the Syrian government.
For his part, Iranian Minster of Power Majid Namjo expressed his country's readiness to support Syria in the domains
of electricity, water and energy. He commended Mabna as a distinguished company that could compete with foreign
companies in the electricity-generating field.
"Mabna Company is one of the most important Iranian firms that competes with international specialized counterparts.
It has carried out different projects in Syria," he said.
