The largest oil production platform in the Middle East was launched in the Persian Gulf, a relevant official confirmed.
The platform, known as SPP-1, is supposed to process 100,000 bpd of crude recovered from Sorush Oil Field.

Mahdi Atriyanfar, director for development projects in Sorush and Noruz fields, said the SSP-1 weighed more than 9,300 tons. The official stated that Sorush and Noruz oil fields were undergoing development to offer 190,000 bpd of oil.
"The development project has so far made 95 % progress and we expect to produce 190,000 barrels of oil in four months. Once Noruz and Sorush are developed, the national oil production rises by 5 % while offshore oil output jumps by 25 %," said Atriyanfar.

"We have so far recovered more than 42 mm barrels of heavy oil from the two fields for the past two years," he said, adding that the National Iranian Oil Company has earned around $ 800 mm from Sorush and Noruz production.
The nominal capacities of Sorush and Noruz stand respectively at 8 and 2 bn barrels of oil.
