Esso opens new lube oil blending plant in Egypt

Exxon's Egyptian affiliate, Esso Standard (Near East), has opened its new, grass roots 400,000 barrels per year Lube Oil Blending Plant (LOBP). The US $ 14 mm plant, strategically located at the 10th of Ramadan City, close to Cairo, will produce lubricants to serve the increasing demand in both Egypt and nearby export markets.
The opening ceremony was held at 10th of Ramadan City and was officiated by H. E. Dr. El Banbi, Egypt's Minister of Petroleum, and Mr. Ian Upson, President, Esso Europe - Africa Services Incorporated, which is responsible for Esso's downstream operations in Egypt.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. El Banbi said, "We welcome and support this high technology investment in Egypt and would like to offer best wishes to Esso for the success of the new LOBP."
Mr. Upson said, "The start-up of the 10th of Ramadan plant establishes world class blending facilities in Esso's operations in Egypt and significantly enhances our capability to serve the rapidly growing and important Egyptian market. Exxon has had a long and successful association with Egypt and looks forward to contributing to the increasing economic success enjoyed by the country."
Exxon's affiliate markets fuel products, lubricating oils and other specialty products in Egypt under the Esso brand name.
