Syria to import electricity from Turkey and Egypt
A new Syrian electricity law will allow the establishment of a new institution in the ministry, called "The
institution of transfer of electricity," Syrian Minister of Electricity Ahmad Qusay Kayali said.
He said the institution will be transferring energy from electricity plants in Egypt and Turkey to distribution
companies and then to Syria.
This will allow Syria to export electricity to Lebanon and Jordan as a later step, he said, also pointing out the
institution will help utilize renewable energy technologies for use in lighting and heating water.
He added the new law permits private sector investment in electricity projects.
