Bahrain gave the green light to a new joint oil venture which is expected to boost the kingdom's economy and create job opportunities for Bahrainis.
The project, a joint venture between Bapco and a group of international oil companies, involves the distillation of naphtha, a naturally occurring flammable liquid, that will be transformed into petrochemical substances, such as polyethylene and polypropylene. It was approved at the Supreme Oil Council session chaired by Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

The council also ratified a project aimed at rebuilding the network of pipelines carrying crude oil from Saudi Arabia's eastern region to the Bahrain refinery.
Oil Minister Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa then briefed the meeting on oil excavation and drilling operations being carried out by Chevron, Texaco and Petronas in Bahrain's eastern offshore area waters. He said operations were running smoothly.
