Iran proposes oilpipeline to Kazakhstan for export

Iran has proposed to Kazakhstan to build a new oil pipeline to export Kazakh crude to Western markets via Iran. Iran said it wanted to reach an early agreement between the two states...on building an oil pipeline and railway through Iranian territory. Iran is particularly interested in Kazakh's Caspian oil.Oil Minister Nateq-Nouri, travelling with various Iranian industry ministers, is in Almaty at the start of an Asian tour which will also take him to Turkmenistan and India.Oil-rich Kazakhstan and Iran have been negotiating a two-million-tonne oil swap, but the deal has yet to be finalised. The United States, which has several oil majors investing in Kazakhstan, including Chevron and Mobil, has pressured the former Soviet republic to do no deals with Iran The Iranian pipeline proposal comes just before a group seeking to get its troubled $1.5 billion Caspian oil pipeline project off the ground meets in December to try to push the deal forward.
