Iran agrees with Petropars privatization

The director of the Iranian Privatization Organization (IPO) announced that the privatization of Petropars company has been approved. Gholamreza Kord-Zanganeh was quoted as saying that 51 % of Petropars' shares will go out to tender in the next Iranian calendar year (begins March 21, 2009).
"The base price of the company is considered to be rials 2.5 tn (about $ 2.5 bn)," added the official.

The shares of the company will be privatized in accordance with Article 44 of the Constitution.
In 2007, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei called on government officials to speed up the implementation of the policies outlined in the amendment to Article 44 of the Constitution, which calls for the privatization of state-run companies.
