Iran is world’s 5th largest oil exporter in second quarter 2002
On 12 September, the Paris-based International Energy Agency (IAEA) has announced that Iran has been in the second
quarter of 2002 the world's fifth largest oil exporter. The Agency put Iran's daily oil output in the same period at
2.25 mm bpd.
In its report, the IEA also says that Iran's oil production in the said period registered a decrease of 20,000 bpd
compared to the first quarter of 2002. Saudi Arabia is the world's top oil producer with exports of 6.85 mm bpd,
while the US is the No 1 importer, purchasing daily 11.11 mm barrels of oil.
The Agency said that US daily oil imports in the second quarter of 2002 showed an increase of 600,000 barrels
compared with the first three months. Russia, Norway and Venezuela are the world's second, third and fourth oil
exporters respectively.
Japan and Germany are the main oil importers, after the United States, the report concluded.
