Officials from both India and Iran are assessing the progress made so far to carry liquid gas from Iran to India. The Iranian delegation in a two-day meeting is headed by Mohammad Hosain Adeli, deputy foreign minister for economic affairs, while the Indian delegation is led by K.V. Rajan, Secretary of East in the Ministry of External Affairs.
The second India-Iran meet is a continuation of the first meet of Indo-Iran Committee on Oil and Gas held in Tehran in August this year. In the meet which is going on in the South Block, the officials from two sides are viewing the various possible ways to carry gas from Iran to India through pipeline. They are exchanging views on the advantages and disadvantages of the project as well.

Experts predict that India would become the largest growing energy consumer in the days to come and its gas consumption will reach up to 27 mm cmpd by the year 2010. The oil import from Iran to India in 1999 is estimated to be $ 250 mm, while imports of non-oil products from that country touched the mark of $ 227 mm. In the current year India's export to Iran may reach $ 157 mm, while its import could worth $ 481 mm.
