Argentina liquefied gas market is changing

Feb. 3, 1997 Major oil & gas companies are penetrating in the liquefied gas (bottled gas) market in Argentina, with the most recent move the acquisition by of Argon by Total, in a $ 130 mm deal. Argon has a 23% share in the domestic market. Oil companies seek downstream integration securing less costs and a high sales volume. The major liquid gas producers are YPF Gas, Repsol, Perez Company, Esso, and Shell. Repsol and Shell are targeting the acquisition of Algas and Autogas distributors. There are other distribution companies such as Extragas, Gas Areco, Solgas Intergas, Brutapropano, and 14 regional co-operatives that control 50% of the market, and are studying fusions and mergers to keep competitiveness.
