Petrobras and Gazprom discuss pipeline cooperation
Petroleo Brasileiro, or Petrobras, said it and Russian gas giant Gazprom discussed the possibility of cooperation in
the areas of gas pipelines and underground storage of natural gas.
Petrobras's gas operations head Ildo Sauer said the initial meetings with visiting Gazprom executives were
exploratory, with no concrete projects proposed, but he said there are positive prospects for future agreements. More
meetings are envisaged in April and May, with Petrobras executives to visit Russia for more talks on a possible
partnership.
Sauer noted that Gazprom has extensive experience in the construction and operation of large gas pipelines, such as
from Siberia to Western Europe.
Brazil, Venezuela and Argentina recently launched a project to construct a gas pipeline more than 7,000 km long at an
estimated cost of $ 20 bn.
