Brazil's EBX to invest $ 1 bn in shipbuilding venture
Brazil's EBX mining, energy and engineering conglomerate will invest $ 1 bn in a shipbuilding venture designed to
meet needs of the nation's burgeoning offshore oil drilling industry, a company executive said.
The EBX group of companies, which is controlled by mining executive Eike Batista, will invest $ 1 bn in a
shipbuilding complex near the southern Brazilian city of Florianopolis, said Rodolfo Landim, president of OSX, the
engineering arm of EBX created in 2007.
Landim said the shipbuilding complex will specialize in oil drilling platforms, small vessels associated with the
offshore oil industry and floating production storage and offloading vessels, or FPSOs.
Landim said the shipbuilding operation will be the biggest of its kind in Latin America and will meet the growing
needs of Brazil's offshore oil industry.
