Brazilian plastics to invest $ 1.3 bn
The Brazilian plastics consumption is to increase by 6% during 1996 with the per capita consumption up from 14,1 kg in 1995 to 15 kg. Up to end 1996 thermoplastic resins consumption is to reach 2.43 mmt. Product growth is unequal, with PS demand dropping by 2,99% as other resins are replacing its uses. PVC demand is up 18,01 % from 455,700 to 537,800 t, as construction industry resumes activities. Polypropylene demand is to raise from 503,300 to 535,200 m tons (6,3% up). The Brazilian thermoplastics resins industry runs a capacity for 2.59 mmtpy, and has scheduled investments of $ 1.3 bn to expand capacity up to year 2000 to 4.2 mmtpy.
