Argentina and Uruguay to start construction of Cruz del Sur gas pipeline

The Presidents of Argentina Fernando de la Rua and of Uruguay Jorge Batlle will start the works of the construction of Gasoducto Cruz del Sur in the Uruguayan city Colonia. This gas pipeline will transport Argentinean natural gas from Buenos Aires to Montevideo. The works will be done by the consortium formed by Pan American Energy, Wintershall, British Gas and Ancap, and will be a $ 170 mm investment.

This gas pipeline will supply natural gas to almost half of the population in Uruguay and at the beginning of its operations it will transport 6 mm cm daily, and later 15 mm cm. Plans are to expand it to Porto Alegre in Brazil which will be an additional investment of $ 350 mm The consortium will be in charge of the gas pipeline operations for 30 year.
