Mexican petchem production down 14 % in 2 years
Over the past two years the production of petrochemicals in Mexico has fallen by 14 %, according to data released by
Pemex.
In 1997 alone production fell from 13.448 million tons in 1996, to 11.513 mm tons. Although this was not the major
factor influencing Pemex's performance last year, it did add to the fall in income last year.
The Mexican Association of Engineers said that the fall in petrochemical production last year was a direct result of
inefficiency and a lack of investment in the sector.
