Endesa units to invest in Brazil power plant
Endesa said its Endesa Internacional and Enersis units plan to invest a total of $ 207 mm in a 310 MW combined-cycle electricity generating plant in the state of Ceara, northern Brazil. The company said the turnkey project to construct the plant has been awarded to Mitsui & Co.
Endesa said it expects the plant, in which Endesa International will have a 51 % stake and Enersis 49 %, to begin
operating in December 2003.
According to Endesa, the decision to construct the power station responds to the Brazilian government's recent
package of incentives for the building of new power plants. The new incentives were announced by the government
following the severe electricity shortages in Brazil this summer, Endesa said.
