Peru has received over $7.5 billion in royalties from Camisea Field since 2004
The Peruvian government has received $7.52 billion in royalties from the Camisea gas field since 2004, the Camisea consortium said.
A total of $282 million in royalties has been paid so far this year, with half of the money going to the government of Cuzco region, where the gas reserves are located, and its provincial and district governments.
The Peruvian government received $1.04 billion in royalties last year, while Cuzco region’s share totaled $522 million.
The Camisea project, which is operated by Pluspetrol, is in the Urubamba River basin in the Peruvian Amazon.
The consortium is responsible for natural gas exploration and production from the San Martin, Cashiriari and Pagoreni fields.
The Camisea fields hold some of Latin America’s largest natural gas reserves.
