Brazil's oil and gas company Petrobras said that it is studying the possibility of importing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from Qatar, as well as exploration and production opportunities in the country.
The company said Qatari authorities who met with Petrobras CEO Jose Sergio Gabrielli showed an interest in taking part in energy projects, especially those involving thermoelectricity.

A Qatari committee is expected to come to Brazil to discuss the company's operations in the Middle Eastern country. Petrobras is also considering signing a memorandum of understanding with Qatar Petroleum International.
According to Petrobras, Qatar holds 5 % of all existing natural gas reserves and is the world's largest LNG producer. In the beginning of 2007, Petrobras launched an LNG program to meet the domestic market's demands, mainly concerning the thermoelectric energy supply sector, which depends on natural gas imports from Bolivia.
