Sener studies new power cost system

Sep 16, 2002 02:00 AM

Sener (Secretaria de Energia) is studying the establishment of hourly electricity rates, which may come into force in 2003. The intent of the change is to reduce the subsidies which the government provides, although prices for domestic and agricultural users will remain the same in the short term, with lower prices appearing in the medium term.

The new scheme will be based on various factors related to the costs of production: Fuel costs, climatic factors and technical losses, for example. The amount of subsidy applied by the government will be based on these factors.
