High prices discourage Mexico's conversion to natural gas

Current international prices of natural gas and other fossil fuels are discouraging companies from switching to natural gas a source of energy, Mexican Construction Industry Chamber Jalisco state President Jose Arturo Alvarez Duenas said. Alvarez said individual companies would need to review whether it was in their interest to switch to natural gas.
"In principle, with the current (price) highs, it is not an attractive option," he said. "And if companies already have made a large investment to convert, they will have lost that money." Alvarez urged the federal government to review its policies in terms of price increases for all inputs used by the construction industry.
