Dow with Petrobras and YPF in talks to build $ 400 mm Argentinean gasline

Dec 18, 1996 01:00 AM

Dow Chemical is negotiating with Argentina's YPF, Brazil's Petrobras and some other smaller firms to build a $ 400 mm gas pipeline in Argentina. The pipeline would be used to transport natural gas from Neuquen, Argentina to the petrochemical complex at Bahia Blanca, Argentina. The project would entail breaking up the gas into methane to be used by YPF, ethane by Dow and propane by Petrobras. Dow plans to spend $ 500 mm at Bahia Blanca in the next five years to build a new cracker plant, which breaks down ethane into ethylene for use in making plastic.
