Venezuela and Brazil join in energy programs

Feb. 4, 1997 The energy ministers of Venezuela and Brazil have expressed confidence that their countries will soon put together joint projects for research and co-operation in the areas of petroleum and energy. Venezuelan energy and mines minister Dr. Erwin Jose Arrieta and his Brazilian counterpart, Raymundo Brito, met in Brasilia to discuss a wide range of bilateral energy co-operation issues. The Brazilian minister expressed his country's interest in purchasing oil, gas and Orimulsion from Venezuela. Brito said: "We are going to move forward and join forces to achieve associations and work out new business deals because Venezuela and Brazil are experiencing a great phase in their relations." For his part, Arrieta explained that through the signing of the electric energy supply accord, under which Venezuela would provide electricity to the Brazilian city of Boa Vista, "we are reaping this first historical crop".
