Peru's President Alejandro Toledo approved a contract Oct. 25 to Argentina's Repsol Exploracion Peru and Burlington Resources Peru for the exploration and development of Block 90 in Peru's Amazon rainforest on the eastern slopes of the Andes.
Block 90 is directly north of Block 57 where Repsol also is seeking a contract. Block 57, in turn, is adjacent and directly north of Peru's giant Camisea natural gas fields.
Repsol currently is exploring Block 39, after returning Blocks 34 and 35 to Perupetro, the state oil agency.
