Norway and Mexico strengthen ties

Norway's Energy Minister Odd Roger Enoksen and his Mexican counterpart Georgina Kessel have sealed a deal strengthening ties between the two countries that will see them co-operate on a raft of energy issues, including petroleum policy, development of renewable energy and energy efficiency, the Norwegian Oil Ministry said.
The move came after a series of meetings held. The ministry said the pair have signed an addendum which updates a memorandum of understanding agreed by Mexico and Norway in 2003.

The addendum specifies further co-ordination through a work programme which will be updated annually, the ministry said.
"Mexico and Norway have much to gain on co-operating in the petroleum sector," Enoksen said. "Among other things, the countries have mutual interests within research and technology development, particularly regarding deep waters," he added.

The Norwegian minister also met with members of Mexico's parliament, management of the state owned company Pemex, and other industry figures.
