The Sable Offshore Energy Project (SOEP) has awarded a contract to Lloyd's Register (LR) to carry out certification on SOEP facilities in Nova Scotia, Canada.
The project comprises six fields with total recoverable natural gas reserves of 85 bncm in water depths of between 20 and 80 meters. The project is currently in the regulatory review and front end engineering and design (FEED) phase. Regulatory approval is expected in early Fall 1997 after which the SOEP proponents will make their decision whether to proceed.
It is planned that the project will be developed in two tiers, with the first tier expected to produce gas for sale by late 1999. Facilities in place by this time are expected to comprise fixed steel platforms at the North Triumph and Venture fields linked by a gas pipeline to a central gathering and treatment platform at Thebaud, infield pipelines, and a 225 km pipeline to a natural gas treatment plant near Goldboro, Nova Scotia. The second tier will see the development of thenearby Alma, Glenelg and South Venture fields.
LR will carry out design appraisal work from its Houston design appraisal facility. LR's project manager, Daryl Attwood, Halifax, will work with the project team from the SOEP offices in Halifax. Close contact will be maintained with the team at all stages of the project to enable all certification matters to be dealt with as quickly as possible to ensure the project stays on schedule.
The SOEP partners are Mobil Oil Canada Properties, Shell Canada Limited, Imperial Oil Resources, Nova Scotia Resources Limited.
