Nova Chemicals upgrades Sarnia Plant

Dec 11, 1996 01:00 AM

Nova Chemicals Ltd. has begun a Cdn $120 mm ($ 90 mm) project to upgrade its Sarnia Styrene II facility. The project involves the installation of equipment which utilises state of the art technology. The result will be an increase of about 160,000 tpy in styrene monomer production capacity on a total of approximately 430,000 tpy. A key element of the technology being used is the elimination of the use of a significant proportion of the chemicals which have the potential for environmental concern. Nova Chemicals has an excellent record of environmental stewardship and as part of the company's commitment to the principles of Responsible Care(R), the source of the concern will be removed. The project is expected to be completed by September 1998.
