Murphy Oil has announced successful drilling results on its Front Runner South prospect in Green Canyon Block 339. The discovery well was drilled to a total depth of 21,359 feet (20,072 feet total vertical depth) and encountered over 400 net feet of hydrocarbons in two zones.
The reserve estimate is now expected to exceed the pre-drill projection of 40-60 mm barrels of oil equivalent. Several appraisal options for Front Runner South are being evaluated at this time. Claiborne P. Deming, Murphy's President and CEO, said: "Front Runner and Front Runner South represent major discoveries for Murphy Oil and its partners. We are certainly pleased with our track record this year in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. We are equally pleased with the partnership's acreage position surrounding the Front Runner and Front Runner South discoveries. The Front Runner partnership has thirteen (13) contiguous blocks under lease on which several drillable prospects have already been identified."

Murphy owns a 37.5 % interest in and serves as operator of this discovery. Its partners are Dominion Exploration & Production, a subsidiary of Dominion Resources, 37.5 %, and Spinnaker Exploration, 25 %.
