First Russian petroleum products to US from new Estonian terminal

Nov 26, 1996 01:00 AM

The Coastal Corporation has made its first shipment of Russian petroleum bound for the United States from its new joint-venture Tallinn Terminal in Estonia. The cargo has been sold to British Petroleum and was scheduled to arrive in New York on Nov. 28. The Coastal-chartered 69,000 dwt-ton tanker, Protank Orinoco, was loaded Nov. 13 with 45,624 metric tons (300,000 barrels) of straight-run fuel oil (M-100), which can be used as refinery feedstock or as fuel for ocean-going vessels. The fuel oil was refined in Russia from Russian crude oil and was shipped by rail to Coastal's joint-venture terminal in Estonia. From there, it was transported through the joint venture's newly constructed 4.6-mile (7.5-km) pipeline to the Port of Muuga, one of the Baltic's deepest ports. Coastal Baltica's port, rail, storage and pipeline facilities will be an important asset to Estonia's energy future by facilitating the import and export of up to 2.5 mmt (16 mm barrels) of petroleum products annually.
