Russia reports on oil and gas exports
Russia's State Statistics Committee announced that 62.4 mm tons of crude oil had been exported in the first five
months of 2001, with about 8 mm tons delivered to customers in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and 54 mm
tons delivered to non-CIS customers. In the same period of 2000, by contrast, export volumes amounted to only 57.4 mm
tons. The average contract price for Russian oil exports came to $ 160.9 per ton in the five-month interval, down
from $ 165.2 per ton in the same period of 2000, the committee said.
It also noted that revenues from oil export operations had risen by 6 % year-on-year in the January-May period but
did not provide specific figures. Additionally, it stated that Russian producers had exported a total of 26.5 mm tons
of refined fuels in the first five months of 2001, up from about 26.1 mm tons in the same interval of last year.
Also, the State Customs Committee and State Statistics Committee announced that Russia had exported a total of 80.1
bn cm of natural gas worth $ 8.2 bn in the January-May period. In the same interval of 2000, by contrast, about 93.4
bn cm of gas worth around $ 9.7 bn was exported.
The committees noted that the volume delivered to CIS states had dropped by 32.4 % in the January-May period while
the volume delivered to non-CIS customers fell by 3 %. Average contract prices for gas, meanwhile, rose from $ 76.6
per 1,000 cm in the first five months of 2000 to $ 102.7 per 1,000 cm in 2001.
