Iran supplies electricity to Afghanistan
Iran is currently supplying electricity to 1.5 mm Afghans.
Officials in charge of Afghanistan’s power supply plan told that good measures have been taken in Afghanistan
for electricity supply after cessation of hostilities. Mohsen Darmani added that Iran provided technical and
financial aid to Afghanistan last year for building two power lines originating from Iran’s Khorasan province.
Darmani noted that Iran has also contributed about 7 bn rials to electricity supply projects in Afghanistan during
the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2005).
He said no firm decision has yet been taken about building a power plant in Afghanistan, adding, “The main
hurdle is needed credit because current estimates have put needed credits at $ 5 mm.”
