Russian oil output expected to rise

Russia will extract 216 mm tons of oil in the first eight months of 2001, 6.7 % more than in the same period of last
year, according to forecasts by specialists of the Economy Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Primary oil processing volumes will total 117.2 mm tons, a 3 % rise, while gas extraction will continue its downward
slide.
