CNPC's foreign oil output growth in 2009
The growth of overseas crude oil production by China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) accelerated to 12 % in 2009 from some 3.3 % in 2008, as the top Chinese oil and gas speeded up its overseas efforts.The parent of PetroChina produced a record 69.62 mm tons, or 1.39 mm bpd, of crude oil in overseas projects it operated last year. The company owned 40.1 % of its foreign oil production of 1.2 mm bpd in 2007.
CNPC, operating 81 oil and gas projects in 29 countries, normally allies itself with foreign partners to explore
overseas blocks and shares commercial findings. Gas output in foreign fields rose to 8.2 bn cm in 2009. The level was
22 % higher than in 2008.
Oil production capacity at 3/7 block in Sudan topped 15 mm tons and output reached 14 mm tons last year.
Meanwhile, its Kazakhstan unit increased crude oil output to 18.57 mm tons and natural gas to 5.47 bn cm. Oil output
from fields by MangistauMunaiGaz, which was taken over by CNPC and Kazakh state firm KazMunaiGaz last year, totalled
5.71 mm tons and gas output at 390 mm cm in 2009.
Crude production at CNPC's South America unit amounted to 10.42 mm tons, in which output from 6/7 block in Peru
topped 5,000 bpd, the highest in nearly 10 years.
Oil and gas production in its Indonesia project rose to its highest of 5.43 mm tons of oil equivalent last year, and
output in the Aman project also for the first time surpassed 1 mm tons.
CNPC's overseas crude oil processing rose to 10.08 mm tons or 201,600 bpd last year.
