China launched pumping of the Turkmen gas to the Tszinbyan compressor station in the direction of Beijing in the third week of January, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) reported.
This event will alleviate the situation in Beijing, experiencing energy shortages due to the onset of cold weather. In winter, volume of gas supply to the domestic market increased by about 1 bn cm.

"This event marks the full commissioning of the western section of the West-East pipeline, which was connected to the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline transporting gas from the Samandepe field through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan," a report said.
Previously, the country has supplied the Turkmen gas to Urumchi (city of north-western China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region), which became its first customer in China.

The CNPC, which is licensed operator and contractor for development of deposits on the Bagtiyarlyk contract territory on the shores of the Amu Darya, reports that thanks to sustainable productionvolumes at the Turkmen oil field, the company pumps about 6.6 mm cm of gas per day to the Khorgos station. The opening ceremony of the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China pipeline was held with the participation of these states' leaders in mid-December 2009.
China is expected to complete construction of the national gas pipeline that will transport the Turkmen natural gas to Shanghai, Guangzhou and more than a dozen other Chinese provinces and cities by 2012.
