Malaysia's Asahan Power Corporation will build a 2x160 MW gas-fired power plant in the regency of Asahan in Indonesia's North Sumatra.
Company Director Wahid Al bin Kassim Ali said that as power in North Sumatra is in short supply, there is bright prospect for the investment.

The Asahan regent offered the project to Asahan Power Corp, Wahid said after signing a memorandum of understanding with state-owned gas company PGN for gas supply. He said his company has sought cooperation with Islamic Bank Malaysia in financing the project.
A German firm will begin construction of the plant in 2005 and the project is expected to be completed and operational by the end of 2006, he said.
