New China offshore oilfield now operational
A new offshore oilfield in north China started pumping out crude. The Bohai Qikou 17-2 oilfield covers 9.1 sq km with
a reserve of 16.55 mm tons of crude oil. Bohai Qikou 17-2 is expected to yield 300,000 tpy of crude for the next 15
years. Two pipes with a total length of 61.5 km will pump oil into a plant in Tanggu, a district of Tianjin
Municipality, neighbouring Beijing.
Bohai Petroleum has invested 1.3 bn yuan (about $ 157 mm) in the oilfield. The oilfield will yield 45 mm cm of
natural gas each year. Bohai Qikou 17-2 is among the first offshore oilfields developed in China. China decided to
develop six smaller offshore oilfields as well.
